In recent times, T10 Leagues are gaining great prominence. After the Abu Dhabi T10 League which concluded a few days ago, it is now time for an all-new tournament – the Qatar T10 League. This is a six-team tournament where a total of 15 games will be played during the league stages followed by the semi-finals and the final along with the 3rd place play-off. In the opening game of the tournament, the Pearl Gladiators played the Flying Oryx at the West End Park International Cricket Stadium in Doha.
The Gladiators were asked to bat first in this game by the Oryx. The team couldn’t get off to the best possible start. Wicket-keeper batsman Sheikh Raheel got run out without even facing a ball. Mehran Khan could only score 8 runs before he was dismissed. Another opener, Faisal Javed, seemed to have got into a shell after these two wickets fell. He crawled his way to a 26-ball 27 before he was run out.
Saqlain Arshad and Adnan Ilyas provided the team with some momentum towards the end. They scored 15 off 10 balls and 18 off 8 balls respectively. Thus, the team got to 83/5 in 10 overs which was well below-par.
Hussain Talat leads his team from the front in what was an easy chase
The Flying Oryx lost the wicket of Valeed Veetil for just 4 runs in the first over of the innings. But skipper Hussain Talat joined Assad Borham in the middle after that and these two put up 80 runs together. The latter remained a mere spectator with his captain playing so well at the other end. The Pakistan cricketer played some glorious shots and put the opposition under pressure.
He remained unbeaten on 59 off 29 balls in an innings that included 8 fours and 3 sixes. Borham, on the other hand, remained unbeaten on 20. The chase was completed in 7.4 overs and with 9 wickets to spare.
