Quadrangular Series 2018: Manish Pandey-led India B beat Australia A to win the tournament

Pandey was the Man of the Match in the final while Bhuvneshwar Kumar picked three wickets in his comeback match.

On the last day of the Quadrangular series 2018, the final between India B and Australia A was played at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore. In the other game that took place on the day, India A was up against South Africa A in the fight for the third place. Both the Indian teams emerged triumphant and ended the tournament on a positive note. The India B team led by Manish Pandey is the champion in the tournament while the Aussies finished second.

Mayank Agarwal and Pandey’s brilliant run in the series continued on the day of the final as well. He led his team from the front and was not dismissed even once in the series. He scored 306 runs in the tournament and was the ‘Man of the Match’ in the final. After a string of failures, Shreyas Iyer was finally back amongst the runs in the game against the Proteas as he registered a fifty there. Here is how things proceed on the final day of the Quadrangular series:

India B vs Australia A – Final

Manish won the toss and opted to field first. The India B bowlers were highly clinical in the game and hit the right spots. They bundled Australia A out for just 225. D’Arcy Short was the top scorer with 72 runs while Alex Carey was impressive with a 53. None of the other batsmen could pull off something remarkable. Shreyas Gopal picked 3 wickets in the innings while Deepak Hooda and Navdeep Saini picked two scalps each.

It was quite an easy chase for India B and they got to the target in just 36.3 overs and lost just one wicket in the process. Ishan Kishan, after scoring 13 off 15 balls walked back to the pavilion retired hurt. However, the rest of the batsmen were fabulous on the day. Mayank Agarwal scored 69 off 67 balls. Shubman Gill and Manish Pandey were both unbeaten and scored 66 and 73 runs respectively as the B team emerged as champions.

AUS A: 225/10 in 47.5 overs (D’Arcy Short 72, Alex Carey 53, Shreyas Gopal 3/50)

IND B: 230/1 in 36.3 overs (Manish Pandey 73*, Mayank Agarwal 69, Ashton Agar 1/59)

Result: India B won by 9 wickets

South Africa A vs India A – 3rd Place

The Proteas won the toss and opted to field first in this encounter. India A lost its openers Samarth and Abhimanyu Easwaran for 23 and 12 runs respectively. However, skipper Iyer with 67 off 70 balls and Ambati Rayudu with 66 off 88 balls put the innings back on track and stitched together a wonderful partnership. Beuran Hendricks picked up 3 wickets for South Africa A.

The chase was indeed a struggle for the Proteas batsmen. They hardly got going and were completely unravelled by the India A bowlers. Bhuvneshwar Kumar, in his come back game, was very impressive and picked 3 wickets. Deepak Chahar and Mayank Markande shared two scalps each. Senuran Muthuswamy with 40 runs was the highest scorer for South Africa A.

IND A: 275/7 in 50 overs (Shreyas Iyer 67, Ambati Rayudu 66, B Hendricks 3/39)

RSA A: 151/10 in 37.1 overs (Senuran Muthuswamy 40, Behardien 38*, Bhuvneshwar Kumar 3/33)

Result: India A won by 124 runs
