Former Indian cricketer and cult legend Rahul Dravid has been busy nurturing young talents ever since he hung up his boots. Under his inspirational mentorship, the U19 Indian side made it to the finals in the 2016 edition and won it comprehensively in 2018. Exciting young talents like Rishabh Pant, Ishan Kishan, Avesh Khan, Prithvi Shaw, Shubman Gill and many more have come into the limelight through him.
Flawlessly impressed by what he has achieved in such a short span of time, the BCCI also approached him to take up the coaching responsibility of the senior Indian side, but the former Indian captain preferred to continue in his current position. Apart from his current roles as the head coach of India A and U19 Indian side, he might now have some more responsibility on his shoulders.
BCCI is contemplating to make him the head coach of the National Cricket Academy (NCA) based in Bangalore. The proposal was made to the Committee of Administrators (COA) by general manager cricket operations Saba Karim and NCA chief operating officer Tufan Ghosh. Although it is pretty clear that the BCCI will not have a problem with him taking up this job, it will be interesting to see if Dravid will be okay with it.
He is the link between the selectors and Indian team
Talking about the legendary number 3 batsman, BCCI sources said that he is a major link for players connecting the Indian team and the selectors. If the sources are to be believed, he is the one informing selectors if a particular player is ready for International cricket or not. Hence, they reckon its the right time to give him a bigger role.
“He has been the link between the Indian team and selectors. He has been guiding everyone behind the scenes. He is the one who has been informing selectors whether a particular player is ready for international cricket or not. We felt it is the right time to have him on board for a bigger role. The idea was proposed during the last COA meeting and it will be taken forward accordingly,” the sources said as mentioned in Indian Express.
