Arjun Tendulkar is a massive name in world cricket for the fact he is the son of the legendary former Indian cricketer Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar. He has grabbed the headlines on a number of occasions and the media has kept an eye on him courtesy of his star status. He bowls left-arm seam and has already bagged the limelight on a few occasions.

Last year, the 18-year old smacked English cricketer Johnny Bairstow on the foot at the Lord’s Cricket Ground after which the international cricketer limped off the park. Yesterday, the pugnacious potential was selected in the Indian Under-19 team for their tour of Sri Lanka. This is Arjun’s maiden call-up to the team and a golden opportunity lies for him to stake his claim in the Mumbai domestic team.

No Dravid for Arjun

The U-19 team has been under the tutelage of Rahul Sharad Dravid for quite a while now. The team, led by Prithvi Shaw, won the U-19 World Cup. They remained unbeaten following which their players and Dravid were showered with accolades from every nook and corner of the country. However, Dravid won’t be touring Lanka with the boys because of commitments with the India A team.

Arjun would be itching to rub shoulders with the former cricketer, but that won’t be possible now as WV Raman, the former Indian all-rounder, will take care of the side in the absence of Dravid. Even last year, Raman was in charge of the U-19 boys when Dravid was busy with the South Africa tour. Raman will be accompanied by Narendra Hirwani, the former leg-break bowler from the nation.

Both Hirwani and Raman are present coaches at the National Cricket Academy (NCA). The U-19 team will visit Lanka for two four-day matches and five One Dayers in July/August. The A team, on the other hand, will take part in a tri-series and three four-day matches versus England Lions and the Windies A before the senior team’s visit of the country.
