All the Indian Premier League (IPL) teams have a huge fan base and it extends to the extent where they have a social appeal. Having built reputation and bond with the followers in the last one decade they have started to use it for a social cause. The Royal Challengers Bangalore have been promoting the ‘go green campaign’ for a cleaner, greener and safer environment. Kings XI Punjab and a few other teams also decided to go plastic-free at particular venues this season to make a contribution towards the environment. Rajasthan Royals also played a match in pink this season to support cancer screening.

Their cause was also supported by the Rajasthan state government and the Chief Minister along with other dignitaries were present on the occasion. RCB’s green game this season was against the Royals and the franchise taking lead from that have decided to launch the ‘Green Jaipur’ campaign themselves. They want to encourage people to opt for sustainable sources of energy.

Inspired by RCB’s initiative

Ranjit Barthakur, Executive Chairman of the Rajasthan Royals said: “The RR vs RCB matches are more than just cricket. Our previous match had RCB Going Green and promoting a sustainable environment. The tiny sapling that they gifted us that day has inspired us to go further and do more for our environment.

We are pleased to announce the launch of our ‘Green Jaipur’ program. As part of this program, we will work on initiatives and advocacy around sustainable living in Jaipur.

IPL is a large platform that helps spread a message to the community far and wide. This event today is a reaffirmation of our commitment to help build a Green Jaipur.

In the coming months, we look forward to working with relevant partners and stakeholders in Rajasthan to take this initiative forward,” he stated in a media release.

The two teams RCB and RR are playing each other for the second time this season today at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. It is a must-win match for both the franchises as they attempt to accumulate 14 points which will keep their qualification hopes alive.
