Rajasthan Royals mentor Shane Warne congratulate team on securing playoff spot

The IPL 2018 turned out to be one of the most entertaining seasons ever as it boiled down to the very last match of the league. Not playing on the final day, Rajasthan Royals had to depend on other results and hope it went their way to secure a playoff qualification. They needed Mumbai Indians to lose to Delhi Daredevils and the Chennai Super Kings to beat the Kings XI Punjab to make it to the final four.

The Royals started the final day at the fourth spot above the Mumbai Indians with 7 wins out of their 14 matches which gave them a total of 14 points in the league stages. Once Mumbai Indians were defeated by the already eliminated Delhi Daredevils by 11 runs, it meant that the Royals were halfway through to the final four and only needed the result of the second match to go in their favour. Mumbai’s defeat meant they were eliminated from the tournament

In the second match of the day, Chennai Super Kings, whose form had taken a dip brought their best game to the fore as they beat the Kings XI Punjab by 5 wickets at Pune.

These two results implied the Royals, like the Chennai Super Kings, we’re going to play the knockout stages of the 2018 IPL – their first season since returning from a two-year hiatus due to a match-fixing scandal.

After everything was done and decided, the Rajasthan Royals camp was visibly overjoyed and were in celebratory mood. Mentor Shane Warne also joined in, wishing the players for their impeccable effort to turn around their fortunes.

The 48-year-old Aussie took to his Twitter handle and wrote, “Congrats to the @rajasthanroyals family for making the playoffs – we did it ! So happy for everyone involved & what an amazing effort it was to make a comeback after the first half of the tournament !! Feeling very proud of you all right now !
