Rakhi Sawant is mostly renowned for hogging the headlines with her controversial statements. She prefers not to mince any words while opining on matters, an attribute which has earned her criticism from the public. Most recently, she asked Virat Kohli about his honeymoon when the Indian skipper posted a picture in his Instagram profile. Lately, Sawant decided to spring another surprise when she announced her debut on the cricket field.

She is most likely to join the ‘Box Cricket League’ an Indian sports reality show in which the celebrities lock horns with each other in an indoor game format. The Indian actress will be playing for the Goa Sharks and revealed it as an initiative to promote women’s cricket. As per Rakhi, the motto of the tournament is to urge women to play rather than confining themselves to the household activities.

Cricket- A game for both men and women

“I don’t believe that girls are limited to playing only with dolls and kitchen sets. I feel they can also be as good as men in playing cricket. The people in our country are addicted to watch men’s cricket matches. No one bothers to support the women’s team,” Rakhi was quoted as saying by Times Now in a recent interaction with the media.

The controversial queen has previously acted in the Shahid Kapoor and Rani Mukherji starrer Dil Bole Hadippa, a movie based on cricket, “In the past, I have been a part of a film (‘Dil Bole Hadippa!’) based on the same issue. It starred Rani Mukerji. Now, I am a part of BCL to motivate girls to take female cricket to another level. BCL is about cricket irrespective of gender. Both male and female celebrities play,” she added.

Rakhi has sparked controversies time and again with her bold comments over the years and it will now be interesting see how she adjusts herself to playing the game of cricket.
