With the release of MS Dhoni – The Untold Story and its success still doing the rounds, people getting to know the rise of Dhoni from a very middle-class family helping them relate to the superstar more, there are yet many untold stories that the locals of his place talk about and which haven’t been brought to light in the movie.
Dhoni, being a hero in his town, has many of his fans eagerly waiting to get a glimpse of him. Little Tinnu, who left early to catch a glimpse of his idol, thought he would be one of the first to reach but instead met with a rather long queue. People were expecting his arrival at about 1 pm, and when he arrives, people went berserk seeing Dhoni, who was oblivious to all the ruckus.
Everyone in Dhoni town wishes to be a part of the legend’s untold story. Starting from old groundsman, Ramu Bhaiyya who has a story of his own to tell to the legend from the time when Jharkhand was still Bihar and Ranji matches were hosted there, to the security guard of Dhoni’s school, Jawahar Vidya Mandir in Shyamali, Mukesh Kumar, who feels he deserved to share screen space in at least one frame.
One person, Chanchal Bhattacharya, Dhoni’s former coach feels that the script was not researched enough. Chanchal, who was left out in the script, says there were many areas of Dhoni’s rise from the ashes that were left out in the movie.
Chanchal commented, “Some aspects aren’t shown completely,”, further adding, “You say it’s an untold story and most of the people already know of his achievements in winning the 50-over World Cup and even the T20 WC in 2007. Many didn’t get to fully know his rise.”

When quizzed why Dhoni’s brother was left out completely from the movie, he could not help much in clearing the doubts. “They don’t talk anymore. He stays separately. He’s into some business for a living,” was all he could offer.
Chanchal though offered to correct some misinformation in the movie. He says that after Dhoni fails to catch the flight for Agartala for a Deodhar Trophy game, he did not return back dejected, as was depicted by Sushant Singh Rajput in the movie, but he rather went by a flight later that day and was in time to make it to the game. “The team, led by Deep Dasgupta, went early but it’s not true that Dhoni returned dejected,” he said. “He did manage to go there on an evening flight. I feel the writers should have researched more.”
He also felt that another important part of Dhoni’s Test debut was left out, “They also omitted another important scene. During the first match of the Sri Lanka tour in 2005, when Dhoni made his Test debut, he had dropped a catch of (Mahela) Jayawardene. The selectors had second thoughts about him then and only when Amitabh Chaudhary, the Jharkhand State Cricket Association president, pushed for Dhoni, the selectors (led by Kiran More) gave him another chance. He clicked after that,” added Chanchal.
He also feels an important knock of Dhoni’s life was left out, a match in Deodhar Trophy where he scored 124 off 114 deliveries for East Zone, playing against Central Zone. Dhoni scored a century (124-ball 114) for East Zone in that game,” Bhattacharya added. “Karsan Ghavri was the coach that time. He recommended Dhoni’s name to Sourav Ganguly (then India skipper). It was an important knock in his life.”
