Ranji Trophy, 2016-17: Teams, Squads and Fixtures

The 83rd season of India’s most prestigious domestic tournament – Ranji Trophy will commence from the month of October with a couple of major changes that may affect the overall outcome of the season. 

A major change introduced in the format of the Ranji Trophy this season is that all the matches will be played at neutral venues. This move is to cut down the home advantage factor from the tournament.

The decision to conduct matches at neutral venues successfully, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has also increased the number of members in the grounds and pitches committee from the existing 10 to 27.

Defending champions Mumbai, who regained their dominance last season, would have a tough task this year. With no home advantage and a list of newly formed talented teams to deal with, they will have to be on the top of their game to defend their title.

Team combinations have also experienced few drastic changes. Many star players including Iqbal Abdullah, Mohammad Kaif, and Subramaniam Badrinath have moved to different teams to lower rung states which probably will be a huge boost for their team.
