Day 3 cleared the air on many games of Round 6 of Ranji Trophy 2016/17. While Jharkhand and Maharashtra completed massive victories by the margin of an innings, Andhra, Karnataka and Railways have put them into a great position to take full points from the game on the final day. Some games might be heading towards tame draws but some a few also ensures an intriguing final day’s play.

Talking about the wins first, Vidarbha looked like making a strong comeback on day 2 but Ankit Sanklecha was back to haunt Vidarbha’s batsmen by taking his second 7-wicket haul. After 7/25 in the first innings, he took 7/69 today as Vidharbha fell shot 3 runs short of Maharashtra’s first innings total after both their innings. In Agartala, Saurashtra didn’t allow Jharkhand’s tail to whack but their batting was all over the place again as they bundled out within 49 overs to lose the game by an innings and 46 runs.

Games in Mysore, Vodadara and Cuttack are heading towards interesting curves. While Jammu and Kashmir will be looking to bat out the day against Haryana to draw the test, UP need 252 more to win with 9 wickets in hand on a challenging batting track in Mysore. After 99 in the first innings, Suryakumar Yadav missed out on a century again getting out for 90. Gujarat are 278 runs ahead of Madhya Pradesh in Vadodara and will be looking to set MP a daunting target on day 4. In Mumbai, Kerala is in a similar situation as of Gujarat and will be pressing for a win against Goa.

Railways are just 23 runs away from an outright win against Baroda. Baroda needed a strong batting performance today to make up for their first innings debacle but could manage 239 even after Deepak Hooda’s impressive 98. On the other hand, Karnataka is also just 4 wickets away from anther victory after setting Rajasthan a target of 525. They might have secured a victory today if light had not faded to delay the inevitable. Like Maharashtra and Jharkhand, Andhra also stands a chance to attain an innings victory as Tripura are still 188 behind with 7 wickets in hand.

The game in Rajkot might end up in a draw but it remains to be seen which team will win the first innings points. Tamil Nadu is left with a solitary wicket left and is still 6 runs behind Bengal’s first innings score which gives the game a significance of its own.
