Recently, Gautam Gambhir shocked everyone by announcing retirement from all forms of cricket. The star Indian batsman played a pivotal part in India winning World T20 in 2007 and 2011 World Cup. His consistency at the top of the order played an important part in India becoming no.1 in ICC Test rankings.

The ongoing match between Delhi and Andhra is the stalwart’s last match of his glittering career. Andhra players decided to give him a guard of honour. Earlier Andhra scored 390 runs in the first innings thanks to a superb century by Ricky Bhui who scored 187. Delhi needed a strong start if they wanted to build a good lead. When Gautam Gambhir came to open the innings with Hiten Dalal he was greeted with a guard of honour as a token of appreciation for a superb career.

Delhi in a good position at the end of Day 2

Gambhir has played a lot of memorable knocks throughout his Test and first-class career. The left-handed batsman made sure that his last match would be memorable too. He along with Hiten Dalal provided a great start to Delhi as they put on 108 runs for the first wicket.

Then he continued the good work with Dhruv Shorey as the duo ensured that Delhi ended the day in a strong position. At the end of Day 2, Delhi’s scorecard read 190 for the loss of just one wicket as they trail Andhra by 200 runs. Delhi would be hoping that Gambhir who is batting on 92, can complete his century and help Delhi in taking a good lead so they can go for victory. Similarly, the former Indian opener would also want to sign off on a high by helping his team win the match.
