Unmukt Chand has been going through a tough phase in his professional career for a long time now. The U19 World Cup winning captain hasn’t even managed to break into the Delhi Ranji Trophy squad for some time now. However, he got a new lease of life on being added back to the Delhi squad in the ongoing 2018-19 season.

Following some poor performances by the team in the ongoing Ranji Trophy, Delhi has recalled Unmukt in the squad. Kerala managed to defeat Delhi in three days. After posting 320 batting first, Kerala managed to restrict Delhi to 139 and 154. Unhappy with the performances, the selectors have made six changes to the squad.

Nitish Rana back at the helm, Unmukt recalled

The Delhi squad was bolstered with the additions of Nitish Rana and Himmat Singh. Both had missed out on the last couple of games since they were on national duty featuring in the Emerging Cup tournament. Navdeep Saini who was a part of the Indian A tour to New Zealand is also back into the team. Kulwant Khejroliya is also after recovering from an illness.

The upcoming game against Madhya Pradesh will be Delhi’s first home game without Gautam Gambhir. The veteran cricketer decided to retire from all forms of the game and he signed off with a century against Andhra Pradesh. Another cricketer who’s services will be missed by the Delhi management is that of Rishabh Pant who has become a permanent member of the Indian Test XI.

While Delhi ended the previous season as the runners-up, it’s highly unlikely that they’ll proceed to the next stage this time around. They’re yet to win a single game with all their previous encounter ending in draws or losses. It remains to be seen if the current squad can swing the momentum back in its favour.

Squad: Nitish Rana (C), Dhruv Shorey (vice-captain), Hiten Dalal, Himmat Singh, Navdeep Saini, Kulwant Khejroliya, Unmukt Chand, Kunal Chandela, Anuj Rawat (wk), Subodh Bhati, Shivam Sharma, Shivank Vashisht, Lalit Yadav, Vikas Mishra and Jonty Sidhu.
