Ranveer Singh shares image with ’83 star cast as Kapil’s Devils leave for shooting in England

India’s 1983 World Cup win in England was probably one of the most trend changing events in the world of cricket. The then 60-over ODI format needed an impetus to reach its zenith and India’s title win proved to be that thing as it made the format popular in the Asian nation which was cricket crazy. It also proved to be the stepping stone for Indian cricket board to become the most powerful cricketing bodies in the world.

Many of current cricket fans were not born when Kapil Dev lifted the Prudential World Cup over his head and all those amazing moments will be captured on celluloid as Ranveer Singh brings the journey of Indian team from obscurity to World Champions in upcoming Bollywood flick ’83. In the movie, Ranveer plays the titular role of Indian captain Kapil Dev.

With the Indian team already in England for the upcoming ICC World Cup 2019, the onscreen Indian team will shoot on real locations where the team triumphed during its journey in 1983 tournament. The movie will be directed by ace director Kabir Khan and in true cricketing fashion, the team reached the Mumbai airport on a team bus.

Apart from Ranveer playing Kapil, Tiger Zinda Hai fame Saqeeb Salim plays Mohinder Amarnath, Pankaj Tripathi plays team manager Man Singh, Adinath Kothare plays Dilip Vengsarkar and Sandeep Patil’s son Chirag plays his father in the movie.

Earlier the whole team had a preparatory camp in Dharamshala to undergo training where the legendary cricketers they are portraying gave trained them on how to mimic their actions as exactly as possible. Ranveer also stayed with the legendary Kapil Dev in Delhi as he plays the role of the icon in the film.

The principal photography of the film is scheduled to start on 5 June in Glasgow, Dulwich college in London, Edinburgh cricket club, Nevill Ground at Royal Tunbridge Wells in Kent and The Oval cricket ground. The Sajid Nadiadwala and Madhu Manthena produced caper will be released in April 2020.
