Indian spin ace Ravichandran Ashwin has come out in full support of opener Abhinav Mukund and asked people not to make a headline out of the southpaw’s message that fair isn’t the only handsome and that abusing people on the basis of their skin tone is sad.

Mukund had posted a picture on the micro-blogging site Twitter and also shared it on Instagram, Ashwin reposted Mukund’s tweet with a message that read: “Read and learn, don’t make it a headline cos its someone’s emotion.” The Indian opener had earlier asked people not to hurl abuses and sneaky remarks on the basis of his skin tone. In a series of tweets, Mukund said that he is not intending to make it a political issue but wants to address the plague.

Mukund’s post on twitter read:  “This is an issue I have wanted to address for a while now. Finally got the chance to put it down. I hope this can result in a change in our mindsets! #Fairisnttheonlyhandsome.” He also requested people not to take the post in a negative manner and confirmed that it is not hinted at any of his team-mates, and therefore he just wanted to address the issue.

Team India sweats it out

The Indian team is currently practising ahead of the 3rd and final Test match of the 3-Test series, which will take place in Kandy from August 12 onwards.  India won the 2nd Test by an innings and 53 runs after wrapping up the contest inside four days. It took the team four hours and 35 minutes to script an emphatic win on the 4th day of the Test match.

Ravindra Jadeja was the awarded the man of the match for his seven-wicket haul and a valuable fifty, ensuring India bats just once in the Test. Opener KL Rahul will retain his place in the side and hence Mukund will have to wait in the woods to go out in the middle.
