Ravichandran Ashwin expresses his firm stance against racism

Veteran Indian cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin has always been very vocal about his opinions. He is not someone who is known to mince with his thoughts and opinions. His direct and ‘to the point’ nature has fetched him a great fan following. Also, Ashwin has always batted for the social cause. Recently, he spoke about one more social cause in his latest Twitter update.

In an update, Ravichandran Ashwin strongly condemned the social practice of racism. Racism, as the definition goes, is the practice of believing one’s race is superior to that of the others. The race could be the ethnicity or the skin color as well.

Over the years, this social blemish has been finding place in the human society. While many have condemned such racial practices, there are still many uneducated people who are racist in their approach – be it through their gestures or through their speech.

In his tweet, Ravichandran Ashwin mentioned that there could be people who would hate him for his actions and that is totally unacceptable. However, if someone tries to demean him with racist remarks, he will not tolerate it one bit. One might wonder why this post has come up all of a sudden. Perhaps, someone must have hurt the sentiments of the successful cricketer.

In any case, Ashwin’s take on this social cause needs to be commended. Interestingly, Ashwin is not the first cricketer to have spoken about this issue. Last year, another cricketer, Abhinav Mukund has also spoken about racism. He had also taken to the micro blogging site Twitter to express his unhappiness over the racist comments that he had been receiving over the years.
