Ravindra Jadeja, the Gujarat Lions all-rounder, was reprimanded by the match referee for showing dissent at the umpire’s decision. Jadeja was visibly unhappy when he was given out off the bowling of Axar Patel in the 11th over of the chase.

Jadeja was the third successive wicket to fall to Axar Patel who completed the first IPL hat-trick of this season. Facing the hat-trick ball, Jadeja was lured into cutting a straighter one from Patel. But, the left-hander was unable to connect and gave a faint edge into the hands of the wicket-keeper.

Jadeja looked visibly unhappy about the decision. He felt there was no nick. The ultra-edge, however, picked up the nick and confirmed the decision.

The Lions were defeated by Kings XI Punjab on Sunday (May 1) in their group encounter in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The KXIP side batted first and posted 154 on the board for the Lions to chase with the help of Murali Vijay (55 from 41 balls) and contributions from middle-order batsmen David Miller (31 from 27) and Wriddhiman Saha (33 from 19 balls). In reply, Gujarat Lions fell short of the target by 23 runs with Jadeja being a victim of Patel’s hat-trick as well.

“Mr. Jadeja admitted to the level 1 offence (Article 2.1.5 of the IPL Code of Conduct for Players and Team Officials) and accepted the sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the IPL Code of Conduct, the Match Referees decision is final and binding,” said an official statement
