Ever since the start of the Indian Premier League (IPL) for the upcoming season has been revealed, the fans are eagerly waiting for the schedule to be announced. But the BCCI has been waiting for the General Election’s schedule to be announced and the plan was to accordingly hold the matches in the country. However, it seems the board doesn’t want to wait more and is set to make the schedule public.
According to the reports in Mumbai Mirror, the BCCI will announce the schedule of the upcoming IPL season on Monday. This is expected to be the provisional schedule and the changes will be made to it later on after the Election Commission reveals it dates. As of now, the tournament is set to commence on March 23 which is early compared to every year.
No home and away format
This season of IPL will be a different one as the BCCI has cleared to the franchises that the home and away format will be done away with. Also, the franchises have been informed that the teams will get only three home matches this time around unlike seven every season. Moreover, the fact that the T20 League is happening in India is a big thing for them as the possibility of it shifting to the UAE or South Africa was huge at one stage.
The IPL has been hosted by South Africa in 2009 and then a phase in the UAE back in 2014 and the BCCI prepared itself to move the tournament to one of these countries yet again.
But the board decided last month that the cash-rich league will take place in India only and they will stage the matches according to the Election Commission’s schedule for the General Election. But it is yet to be revealed and it looks certain that the matches will shifted to other locations or could be swapped at the last moment now.
