Reports: Indian selectors to hold talks with Shikhar Dhawan over future plans after Zimbabwe tour

As per the latest developements, members of the Team India selection committee are expected to have a conversation with veteran opening batter Shikhar Dhawan regarding his future in the national squad after the completion of the India tour of Zimbabwe.

The stylish left-handed batter has not been able to fix his place in the T20I squad and the batter has not represented India in the Test format for a very long time. At present, Dhawan is leading India in the ODI series against West Indies, but the left-handed batter will not feature in the visitors’ squad in the upcoming T20I series against the Men in Maroon.

Coaching staff will assist Shikhar Dhawan if a change is required

“There is no problem between Shikhar and Rohit. It’s just that both have different ideas. It is not a bad thing. But yes, we will have a sit down with Shikhar probably after the Zimbabwe tour on understanding his plans. If he needs to change his batting approach, Vikram and Rahul are there to talk to him. We won’t interfere,” a member of the selection committee told InsideSport.

“There is no reason to panic. Shikhar is doing just fine. Yes, the demand of the game is now such that you will have to be quick off the blocks. With KL, Shubman and Ishan around, Dhawan will need to understand that demand. I am sure, he will do just fine,” the member added.

Dhawan has been an integral part of the Indian team for quite a long time and has played several match-winning knocks for his country. The left-handed batter has an uncanny knack of bringing out his A-game during the ICC tournaments and has given several excellent starts to his team.

Despite not featuring in the Indian team for T20Is, Dhawan has proved his mettle in the Indian Premier League (IPL) over the years as the left-handed batter is one of the most successful batters in the franchise-based league.
