According to media reports, Sri Lanka is likely to host the 15th edition of the Asia Cup. The tournament will be held in the nation in the month of September 2022. The marquee event was previously staged to be played in Pakistan in the year 2020. However, owing to the ongoing pandemic, it was eventually postponed.

Veteran Geo News journalist Arfa Feroz Zake informed about the same. He took it to his official Twitter account to confirm the news of Sri Lanka hosting the tournament. “πŸ‡±πŸ‡°πŸ Sri Lanka will host the fifteenth edition of Asia Cup in September 2022 in T20 format. This tournament was earlier to be hosted by Pakistan Cricket Board who exchanged hosting rights with SLC,” the tweet read.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had struck a deal with Sri Lanka Cricket to exchange the hosting rights to be able to host the 2022 edition of the tournament. The 2020 edition that was cancelled due to Covid was previously set to take place in Sri Lanka this summer. However, after India made it to the finals of the World Test Championship it was called off.

Since its start, the tournament was played in a 50 over format. But since the year 2016, the format of the Asia Cup has been vastly affected by the nearest ICC event. The previous edition of the high-profile event was played in 50 over format considering the upcoming 2019 World Cup.

Taking into account the fact that Australia would be hosting the eighth edition of the T20 World Cup in October-November 2022, the latest edition of the Asia Cup will also be played in the same format. India had won the last edition of the Asia Cup. In the finals, the team locked horns with Bangladesh.

After having won the toss, India elected to field first at the Dubai International stadium. Liton Das starred with the bat for Bangladesh as he brought up his century. Bangladesh eventually posted a target of 223 for India. The final game did have all the drama and thrill in it. Whilst chasing down, India lost quick wickets at the end but managed to emerge triumphant by three wickets.
