Varun Chakravarthy is doubtful for the upcoming tour of Australia due to a shoulder injury. The mystery spinner is reportedly having problems throwing due to the shoulder issue. Chakravarthy had earned his maiden Team India call-up last month for the T20I series in Australia after impressing in the ongoing IPL 2020.

Chakravarthy finally justified the hype surrounding him with his consistent performances this season. The right-arm spinner was so impressive with the ball that Kolkata Knight Riders didn’t hesitate in keeping Kuldeep Yadav on the bench for the better part of the tournament. The 29-year old finished the competition with 17 wickets and had a stunning economy-rate of 6.84. His figures of 5 for 20 against Delhi Capitals are still the best bowling figures of IPL 2020.

Varun Chakravarthy’s shoulder injury

While the stunning performance in IPL 2020 has helped Varun Chakravarthy earn the call-up from the national team, his participation in the T20I series looks doubtful. According to Indian Express, the spinner has a labrum tear in his shoulder that doesn’t affect his bowling but hinders his throwing. The report stated that it’s an injury that he has had for a while but has aggravated as the IPL progressed.

However, he was reportedly declared fit in the ers’ fitness report submitted by the Indian team’s physio Nitin Patel before the selectors picked him in India’s T20 squad. The selectors will now take the final call on Chakravarthy’s participation in the much-anticipation series.

“The selectors weren’t informed about the injury. Now it’s up to the selectors to pick Varun for the Australian tour or not. It will be selectors call,” a BCCI official was quoted as saying by Indian Express.

The shoulder injury was the prime reason behind KKR making Chakravarthy largely field inside the 30-yard circle. The Tamil Nadu ace spinner has already joined the Indian team’s bubble and also bowled in the nets. KKR informed the Indian team physio about the status of the injury after their IPL campaign ended and the squads for the Australia tour were announced.
