T20 leagues around the world have changed the way cricket was being played. A number of sides have benefitted through these leagues as few of the star performers from those leagues are not only representing the country but also are doing exceedingly well. Indian Premier League has played a massive role in Indian cricket. It has shaped few careers, few players have got themselves the Indian jersey through their performances in the IPL.

Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) in 2016 had organized a successful cricket league for their own players which got a massive response from the crowd as well as sponsors. The next season saw the tournament get better with their number of players getting bigger and better opportunities and exposure in the IPL. Likes of T Natrajan and Washington Sundar made their names through the TNPL.

IPL-style auction of players

Following the footsteps of the TNPL, Mumbai Cricket Association has announced a T20 league which will feature the likes of Rohit Sharma, Ajinkya Rahane, Shreyas Iyer and U19 World Cup winning skipper Prithvi Shaw where the three could be the star attraction the IPL style auction where the franchises will try bag the star players through their deals.

The tournament is scheduled from March 11 to 21 where six teams will fight for the title at the Wankhede Stadium. Rohit Sharma is one of Indian side’s regular member so his participation in the whole tournament will be doubtful. Similar questions hover over the participation of likes of Shaw, Rahane and Iyer who can be picked in some side for India’s domestic tournaments like Deodhar Trophy and Irani Cup.

Recently, batting legend Sachin Tendulkar was roped in as the brand ambassador of the tournament. The sole purpose of the tournament is to showcase the talent the Mumbai players have so that they get an opportunity for bigger stages.

It will be interesting to see If the tournament can become a hit like the TNPL.
