Despite building the reputation of being one of the cleanest hitters in world cricket, the opening batsman of Team India, Rohit Sharma, has failed to cement his position in the Test side. The squad for the five-match series was announced on Wednesday and the selectors overlooked his form in the limited-overs leg of the tour. The man himself has come up with a tweet now and has indirectly hinted at his axing from the team in whites.

Hitman scored a scintillating century in a steep chase in the decider at Bristol and also continued in the same vein at Trent Bridge. The way he was batting, many felt that he will make it to the Test team once again in spite of poor returns on South Africa tour. Rohit’s struggle against the moving ball is well-known to the world now which has been the major reason he has not been able to make it to the Test side regularly.

Based on the ‘current form’, Rohit Sharma was picked over the Test team’s vice-captain, Ajinkya Rahane, during the first couple of Tests in the rainbow nation. What followed was an aberration as he could only muster 78 runs in 4 innings and was eventually benched for the final game. But the series was lost by then and Rahane fared decently to raise more eyebrows about his exclusion earlier in the series.

As it stands now, Rohit might have lost his place on a long-term basis from Tests after repeated failures. But his recent social media update is hinting that he will strive hard to make a comeback and prove his critics wrong. “Sun will rise again tomorrow,” he tweeted on Wednesday after being axed from the Test squad.

While the Test team will now be hitting the straps as the tough assignment begins on August 1, Rohit will be taking a flight back to home after a brilliant series in England.
