Rohit Sharma is the next MS Dhoni for Team India: Suresh Raina

MS Dhoni is the greatest captain the country has ever witnessed. He has been a top-class finisher and his abilities behind the wickets have been just extraordinary. From being a T20 World Cup-winning captain in 2007 to lifting the ICC Champions Trophy in 2013, MS has achieved every feat one can just dream of.

In the art of managing finite innings, reading a contest’s rhythm, and its tactical aspects, the great man never had any equal. He always had the gut feel for what can happen and the ability to get the best out of his resources. His greatest strength was his nerve. When others tried to finish things quickly to pre-empt panicking, he took games deep. He raised the bar whenever he stepped on the field. Also in adverse circumstances, he managed to maintain composure in the team.

Suresh Raina names Rohit Sharma as the next MS Dhoni for Team India

The dynamic Chinna Thala of CSK Suresh Raina has expressed strong belief for the Indian opener, Rohit Sharma, that he could well be the next Dhoni for the Indian team in terms of captaincy.

“I would say he is the next MS Dhoni for the Indian cricket team,” Raina said on The Super Over Podcast. “I have seen him, he is calm, he likes to listen, he likes to give confidence to the players and on top of that, he likes to lead from the front. When the captain leads from the front and at the same time, he gives respect to the dressing room atmosphere, you know you have it all.”

“He thinks everyone is a captain. I have seen him; I have played under him when we won the Asia Cup in Bangladesh. I have seen how he gives confidence to young players like Shardul Thakur, Washington Sundar and Yuzvendra Chahal of course.”

Rohit has done some fine work to justify Raina’s praise for him. Whenever Virat has been rested, the prolific opener has been bang on with captaincy duties which gets bestowed upon him. The greatest example would be the 2018 Nidhas Trophy victory and also the Asia Cup triumph the same year. The vintage champion also is the most successful IPL Captain with four trophies under his name in the last 7 years.

Raina also complimented his Mumbaikar counterpart by saying that, “Around him, players enjoy the intensity, they enjoy his aura. I think when you enjoy the aura of a player, you like to be positive and I think that is what he is good at.”

It can be believed that Rohit is battle-ready for any big responsibility if trusted upon him in the future.
