Indian skipper Virat Kohli and his deputy Rohit Sharma were the chief architects of yesterday’s series win against a spirited New Zealand side. Both the batsmen scored their respective hundreds and not just that, the duo were involved in a 230-run stand, which was their record fourth double hundred partnership in ODI cricket. No other pair has fetched this many runs in one inning in the limited overs format.

Post the dismissal of opener Shikhar Dhawan, Kohli and Rohit took on the onus on themselves and played out magic. While Kohli kept playing his signature drives without breaking a sweat, Rohit, on the other hand, went ‘slam-bang’. One of the most prized moment from the eventful final was Kohli’s expression when Rohit hit a massive six.

Rohit leaves a lasting impression on Kohli

It was the 10th over of the Indian innings, India were milking the Kiwi bowlers to their advantage. Pacer Adam Milne bowled a tad short and saw Rohit pull it over the mid-wicket boundary for a maximum. It was the touch of a man in form and it impressed Kohli. Rohit then went on to make a hundred, it was also his maiden hundred against New Zealand in 18 innings.

Rohit bagged the man of the match award after India clinched yet another title. At the post-match ceremony, he said, “Feels good when the team wins, and you contribute. Happy how we played through this series. NZ were very competitive, and it wasn’t easy to come and win. We had to be at our best to win. I was watching the pre-match analysis where they said my head was falling off, so I worked slightly on it. That helped,”

“My head was falling a bit, and wasn’t coming into the line of the ball. The quickly you rectify, the better it is. I enjoyed playing today in Kanpur, have good memories personally, but not for the team. Good to change that. (On his 100 celebration) Every hundred is special, but what I was working on came off well, and that’s why I was happy. Sanjay Bangar (batting coach) helped my work on some of these things, and that’s when results are more pleasing,” he added.
