Rohit Sharma’s 115-run knock in the fifth ODI against South Africa was the perfect response to his critics. He was enduring a poor run throughout the tour and was being touted as the home track bully by many. However, he was back in form when it mattered the most and played a crucial role in sealing the historic series victory in Port Elizabeth.

The vice-captain of the team though made sure to pass on the message to the critics after the match and cleared that it doesn’t make any difference to him what people are talking. In fact, he feels privileged when social media is buzzing with his name after his non-performances.

I always want to do something special for country

Rohit Sharma was delighted and relieved after his match-winning knock and lashed out at everyone who criticised him during his spate of poor performances with the bat. “I feel privileged if the people are talking about me on the social media. Of course. People want to talk about me, they will talk about me. But to be honest, what goes in my head is completely opposite. I am here to do something special for the team. Whenever I get an opportunity to play, I always see that I do something special for my country,” he told reporters during the post-match press conference.

He also admitted to the fact that people will talk regardless of your show on the field. While good performances are hailed by them, they also have the right to criticise. “As long as you are playing the sport, good things and bad things will happen. When you are doing good things, people will talk. When you are doing bad things, people will still talk. I have managed that really well in the past few years because when you are having a good time, be aware of that you will have a bad time as well. That’s how a sportsman’s career goes. I am pretty much in that space right now, he concluded.
