Shakib Al Hasan, Bangladesh’s ace all-round cricketer, is currently in the middle of a rather frustrating finger injury, which has turned out to be a detriment to his cricketing assignments this year. He missed quite a few international matches for them owing to the injury and is still recovering from the same. He sustained the injury during Bangladesh’s tri-nation series involving Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka back in January.

Meanwhile, it has recently been learned that he refrain from taking part in the upcoming Asia Cup, which starts on September 15, in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The 31-year-old is scheduled to undergo a finger surgery and he mentioned that he doesn’t want to take the field before attaining full fitness. However, he is optimistic about his recovery prior to the commencement of the upcoming tournament.

A body blow for Bangladesh?

“We all know that I have to have a surgery. But I feel the earlier it is done, the better, most probably before the Asia Cup. I don’t want to play without being fully fit. If I think that way, it should be done before Asia Cup and that is normal,” Shakib Al Hasan told the reporters at Dhaka airport after the national team’s return from the West Indies.

Bangladesh recently played a Test, ODI and T20I series against the Windies, and Shakib was an integral part of the setup. He captained the team in the two-match Test series, but couldn’t help the Tigers evade a 0-2 defeat in the series. From the personal front, he was impressive as he picked up a six-wicket-haul in the second Test in Jamaica. With the willow, he couldn’t wield his magic though.

The Jessore-born cricketer then piled on 190 runs in the three matches of the ODI series. He led the side in the three-match T20I series and guided them to a 2-1 victory over Carlos Brathwaite’s men. The left-hander became the leading run-scorer with 103 runs and also nipped out three wickets.
