Former Indian fast bowler RP Singh is mostly seen in the commentary box these days, weaving magic with his vocal cords. He last played competitive cricket in the 2016-17 Ranji Trophy when he played for Gujarat. Recently, the left-arm fast bowler made his comeback on to the cricket pitch, representing Pakhtoons in the second edition of the T10 League in Sharjah.

He has only played a couple of matches against Rajputs and Bengal Tigers with his best figures of 2/14 coming against the Tigers yesterday night. He got the wickets of Jason Roy and Luke Wright and helped his team restrict the Tigers to 93/6 in 10 overs. Windies batsman Andre Fletcher scored 47 from 18 deliveries to take Pakhtoons to a triumph with 15 balls to spare.

RP Singh refuses to bowl

Apart from his amazing spell of bowling, Singh also got himself tangled in a controversy. The incident took place in the fifth ball of the very first over of the encounter. He bowled a fuller length ball and opposition skipper Sunil Narine had an almighty heave at it. However, he missed it and hit Shafiqullah Shafiq on the legs after which the keeper threw the ball at the non-striker’s end.

The throw went and hit the stumps and Narine seemed to have made his ground. Nevertheless, replays showed that the batsman’s feet were off the ground when the ball struck the wickets. To everyone’s surprise, the umpires asked for the play to continue. The same didn’t please Singh by any stretch of the imagination and the speedster denied to bowl the last ball of his first over.

Roy at the striker’s end, initially, couldn’t comprehend the proceedings and he along with Narine waited patiently for play to resume. Thereafter, Shahid Afridi, the Pakhtoons’ skipper, was seen having a long chat with the on-field umpire and Cameron Delport along with Shafiq also joined them. After a heated conversation, Singh eventually completed bowling the last delivery.
