The news of Virat Kohli’s rift with the Indian head coach Anil Kumble did rounds at the beginning of the week, with many a report on their fights circulating left, right and centre ahead of the start of the Champions Trophy. This news came in as soon as India managed a comfortable victory over the New Zealand side led by Kane Williamson.

Various reports suggested that Indian captain Kohli and a lot of other players in the team were unhappy with the coach’s overbearing attitude and working style, while few other reports suggested that Kuldeep Yadav‘s inclusion for the 3rd Test caused the problem between the duo.

According to the latest report from NDTV, there is no such rift as rumoured between the skipper and the head coach although there have been differences of opinion between the two. India, are locked in to take on arch-rivals Pakistan on the 4th of June, and the rumours are the last thing that the Indian team would want to see before the big clash.

There have also been reports which suggest that Kumble does not share a cordial equation with the squad and Kohli has also informed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) about the situation inside the dressing room.

Application for the post of head coach

BCCI recently invited the applications for the role of head coach of the Indian national team. This move came after Kumble is left with under a month on his contract, also making it clear that the former leggie will not get a direct extension. Under the tutelage of Kumble, the Indian team is yet to lose a series with impressive wins against England, New Zealand, South Africa and Australia.

“To ensure a fair and completely transparent process, a nominee of the Committee of Administrators (CoA) will oversee the entire process along with the Cricket Advisory Committee…The BCCI’s three-member advisory committee comprising Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman will conduct interviews and seek presentations to select the best possible candidate to guide the team and take Indian Cricket forward,” read the board’s press release.

Only time would tell us if Anil Kumble is replaced as the head coach and one thing that is certain as of now is that the BCCI has not received any application for the post just as yet. If anyone does replace Jumbo as the head coach, who would it be?
