South Africa will take on West Indies in the 23rd match of the ongoing Women’s World Cup 2022 at the Basin Reserve in Wellington. The Women in Green are coming off a defeat from the hands of the table-toppers Australia in their previous fixture but have managed to win all their remaining fixtures so far. However, a win here might just propel their chances of making it to the semi-finals.

On the other hand, West Indies started their campaign really well with close wins but have had some contrasting results after that. The Stafanie Taylor-led side lost their previous encounter against Pakistan and are now on the verge of losing out a position in the top four in the points table. They will have to win the upcoming fixture against South Africa to keep their hopes alive of making it to the semi-finals.

Head to Head record:

South Africa has clearly had the upper hand in the meeting between these two sides as they have won 16 of the 32 fixtures. West Indies have managed to win ten games while three games have gone on to a tie and three have ended up with no result. When it comes to the World Cup meetings, both sides have won two games each in the four meetings.

Top Performers:

Stafanie Taylor has done really well in the fixtures between South Africa and West Indies so far and she is likely to do the bulk of the damage again. The West Indies skipper has scored 697 runs in 21 games at an average of 43.56 with one century and five half-centuries. Marizanne Kapp leads the bowling chart in the fixtures between the two sides as the 32-year-old has taken 25 wickets in 17 games at an average of 16.92.

Last World Cup meeting:

Both these teams met each other in the 2017 Women’s World Cup in the 12th game at Leicester and it was pure domination from the South African side in their previous WC meeting. Having lost the toss, West Indies were put into bat and straightaway they lost five wickets for just 16 runs in just the eighth over. The new ball bowlers Shabnim Ismail and Marizanne Kapp ran through the batting order of the West Indies as they were all out for just 48 on the board.

Skipper Dane Niekerk was the pick of the bowlers as she went through an amazing spell of 4 for 0 in her 3.5 overs  while Kapp also picked up four wickets. In reply, South Africa was off to a blistering start with the openers Lizelle Lee and Laura Wolvdaart going after the bowling and chased down the target in just 6.2 overs.
