Sachin Tendulkar contributes to 'Mission Oxygen' to boost India's fight against COVID-19

As we look forward to the month of May, the second wave of the coronavirus has once again jolted India. In the past week, there have been more than 3 lakh cases of COVID each day. This sudden upsurge has created a lot of issues for the medical fraternity which is struggling to meet the demands. 

In this dire and desperate situation, cricketers have come ahead to show support to society by contributing money to several causes. After Brett Lee and Pat Cummins, now former Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar announced that he has made a contribution to a mission that aims to help hospitals with the supply of oxygen concentrators. 

Tendulkar posted a message on his official Twitter handle to inform his followers about his contribution. The long and heartfelt message started with addressing the aspect that the healthcare system has been under pressure during the last few days. “The second wave of COVID has put our healthcare system under immense pressure. Providing oxygen for a large number of serious COVID patients is the need of the hour,” the message read.

After this, the message talked about Mission Oxygen, which is a program launched by young entrepreneurs of the country. “It is heartening to see how people are rising to the occasion. A group of 250+ young entrepreneurs has launched Mission Oxygen to raise funds for importing oxygen concentrators and donating them to hospitals across the country,” the message further read.

Tendulkar then wrote about his contribution but didn’t reveal the exact amount. He also expressed to his fans that it is time to stand together with everyone. “I’ve helped by contributing to the cause and hope that their effort soon reaches out to many more hospitals across India. Your support when I was playing was invaluable and helped me succeed. Today, we have to stand together behind everyone that is working hard to fight this pandemic,” the message concluded.

Earlier in the day, Sunrisers Hyderabad wicketkeeper-batsman Shreevats Goswami also made a contribution of INR 90,000 for the oxygen supplies.
