Sachin Tendulkar reminisces one of Gautam Gambhir's special knocks on the latter's birthday

Gautam Gambhir, the Delhi-born cricketer will mostly be remembered for the couple of knocks he played in the final of the World T20 and the World Cup in 2007 and 2011 respectively. Unfortunately on both instances, while the knocks turned out to be match-winning, Gambhir didn’t get the Man of the Match even once, which remains to be a disappointing aspect of his supporters.

Among both the knocks, the once in 2011 at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai came when the Men in Blue were chasing a score of 274 runs. The knock also remains to be special for the reason that the hosts lost a couple of early wickets in the form of Virender Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar. He came to bat at number three and scored 97 runs from 122 deliveries.

Sachin showers praises on Gambhir

His knock was laced with nine boundaries. Just when everyone thought that the Delhi-born cricketer would score a century and take his team, Thisara Perera castled him with a back-of-a-length delivery. At that point in time, India needed 52 runs, a task which can be tricky in a knockout match, but the middle-order made order ensured that India got over the line with 10 balls to spare.

Gambhir, the hero of the glorious night is celebrating his 37th birthday today and Sachin, who played in that match, wished him on the auspicious occasion. Moreover, he also reminisced the brilliant knock by the left-hander. Gambhir’s birthday was also special for the reason that he scored his 21st List ‘A’ century against Haryana in the quarterfinal of the Vijay Hazare Trophy in Bangalore.

In the meantime, the Master Blaster took to Twitter and wrote, “Fondly remember your innings from the World Cup final, @GautamGambhir! Have a great year ahead.”
