Shahid Afridi was one of the legendary cricketers Pakistan have ever produced. He made his debut way back in 1996 and grew in stature ever since. This year in May, he played his last international match, representing World XI in their match against Windies at the iconic Lord’s Cricket. He held the record for the fastest ODI century for quite a while after which it was broken by Corey Anderson.
He was as also one of the most popular cricketers from the war-stricken nation. The 38-year-old retired cricketer has also played quite a few matches against India. Recently, Virender Sehwag, the former Indian cricketer, drew his comparison with the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, the holders of a plethora of records in international cricket even after five years since he hung his boots.
“Everyone in our team had talked about Afridi before my first series against Pakistan. As a player, he was like our Tendulkar in the Pakistan team and we all discussed about him,” Sehwag was quoted as saying in Gulf News.
We as cricketers too want to watch it
India and Pakistan currently plays tournaments only organised by the International Cricket Council (ICC) and Asian Cricket Council (ACC). However, they haven’t taken part in a bilateral series for six years. The arch-rivals will next play in the 2019 Cricket World Cup in England and Wales.
Sehwag also admitted that the supporters want to see a full-fledged series between India and Pakistan. Moreover, he went down the memory lane and talked about a few of his memorable knocks against Pakistan, which also included the triple-century he notched in Multan.
“Every Indian and Pakistani want to see an India-Pakistan series. We as cricketers too want to watch it. Hopefully, the governments of both countries will talk and resume the series. I have many lovely memories like my triple century in the Multan Test match double century in Lahore Test and my century in Kochi ODI match,” he added.
