Sri Lanka received a major blow this morning after their top-order batsman Sadeera Samarawickrama got ruled out from any participation in the second day’s play of the third Test match against India in Delhi on Sunday after medical suggestions. Sadeera got hit on the helmet grill when Indian opener Murali Vijay attempted a sweep shot yesterday.
The 22-year-old was taken for a CT scan and after the check-up, the doctor declared him fit but he has been advised rest and his condition will be monitored. He was fielding at the short leg while the incident took place. This was not the first time when the Lankan got a blow. During the Nagpur Test, he took a hit on his body but was declared fit later.
Sri Lanka in trouble
“Sadeera is not taking any part at all in today’s proceedings. He has got a mild concussion. There’s a protocol in place when a player gets hit on the head and we are following that. We will take a call after taking him to the doctors at close of play,” Asanka Gurusinha, Sri Lanka’s team manager told Cricbuzz.
India have put on a massive total of 500/5 and the skipper is batting on 225, his second consecutive double hundred in this series. The Lankans are already a man down even before going out to bat and they will bank on their experienced batters to do the job and avoid yet another embarrassing performance with the bat. Yesterday, it was opener Murali Vijay, who brought up his second consecutive hundred since making a comeback after suffering a wrist injury. Rohit Sharma got out for 65 but with a total of 500-plus on the board, India will look to pile up more and get the Lankans out twice before clinching the cup.
