MS Dhoni brought back the memories of April 2, 2011, alive on Friday by leading India to yet another historic victory in Melbourne. It is one of Australia’s most difficult bastions that Virat Kohli’s men breached only last month in a Test match. The veteran wicketkeeper-batsman scored an unbeaten 87 off 114 balls – his third successive fifty in the series – to help India overhaul the target of 231 with four balls and 7 wickets to spare. The win meant India bagged the three-match ODI series 2-1 after losing the first game in Sydney.

It was the second successive match-winning half century from Dhoni after his 54-ball 55 not out in Adelaide in the second game that saw India win by 6 wickets. It was also sweet revenge for the man who, as the captain, had lost a five-match bilateral series in Australia in 2016 by 1-4 margin. Friday’s victory meant India won their maiden bilateral ODI series in Australia and it came a fortnight after they scripted a historic Test series victory Down Under.

Actress Saiyami Kher was as ecstatic as the rest of the cricket lovers after India won at the MCG. In a tweet, she said the chanting in the name of Dhoni at the iconic venue gave an impression that it was in Ranchi. She expressed her awe over the level of affection India’s World Cup-winning captain receives from the fans but did not forget to mention the name of Yuzvendra Chahal who came up with a stellar performance with the ball to make India’s win easier.

“The Dhoni chanting at MCG almost sounded like Ranchi. Such a loved cricketer! And what a spell by @yuzi_chahal well deserved win! For the sake of cricket I hope Australia gets a better team together by the WC.” Saiyami tweeted.

Chahal, who got his first game of the series, took 6 wickets for 42 runs to restrict the hosts who posted big totals in the previous two games. He equalled Ajit Agarkar to register the best ODI bowling performance in Australia by an Indian bowler and was picked as the Man of the Match. Dhoni, on the other hand, was chosen as the man of the series.

Saiyami Kher’s request for Australia

However, the 27-year-old actress who made her Bollywood debut in ‘Mirzya’ opposite Harshvardhan Kapoor, came up with another observation in her tweet that would match that of any hardcore cricket pundit. She said that for the sake of cricket, the current Australia team should get into shape by the time the World Cup in England arrives.

Australia lost their third successive ODI series at home with the defeat against India. The Kangaroos now have lost their last six ODI series and their last win was against Pakistan in 2016-17.
