Sanath Jayasuriya to lead World XI to raise funds for Nepal Earthquake: The former Sri Lankan skipper and chief selector Sanath Jayasuriya will lead the World XI side which is set to play against Nepal at Kinrara Oval in Malaysia on August 9th. The match will be played with the prime motive of raising funds as the proceeds of the game will add up to the Relief funds for the victims of Nepal Earthquake which created havoc in the Asian nation, few months ago.

As per the reported estimates, Nepal earthquake of April 2015, which is also known as the Gorkha earthquake took away the lives of as many as 9,000 people while more than 23,000 people were injured in the nerve wrecking disaster. It swayed away the life of the local residents up to a significant level and the infrastructure also swallowed a big blow in the face of this earthquake.

The team will be a mix of retired as well as current players. The team will encompass the Bangladeshi spin duo of Abdur Razzak and Sohag Gazi while the former Pakistan Wicket-keeper batter Rashid Latif will also don the World XI jersey. Two Australian players in the XI are Steve O’Keefe and Marcus Stoinis, who will be returning from Australia A’s successful tour of India where the visitors thrashed Indian’s by 10 wickets.

Venugopal Rao will be the lone Indian face in the World XI side, Aminul Islam and Singapore batsman Chetan Suryawanshi will also help in raising the charity by playing the match.

If we talk about the Nepal side, then Gyanendra Malla will lead the troops as Paras Khadka is unavailable for the match. The Cricket community has always united and intensified to support others when turmoil like Tsunami and Earthquake has spoiled the day-to-day life of many.

Similarly in 2004/05, there was an initiative by the International Cricket Council (ICC) namely ‘World Cricket Tsunami Appeal’ which made immense efforts to raise funds in order to support the humanitarian relief efforts following the Indian Ocean tsunami of 26 December 2004. At that time high profile matches were played between World XI and Asian XI which garnered gigantic public response and helped greatly in raising hefty sum of funds for the affected people.
