The demand for wrist spinners is growing day by day. Such type of spinners has the ability to trouble the batsmen and picking wickets on any conditions. Post the 2015 World Cup, every team is looking to make room for at least one wrist spinner. The Indian team has gone to the extent of fielding two wrist spinners regularly in the ODI setup. This clearly shows the rise of wrist spinners over the past few years.

Impressive debut season

Sandeep Lamichhane became the first player from Nepal to be picked up by an IPL franchise when the Daredevils picked him up for his base price of INR 20 Lakh. The 17-year-old leggie from Nepal did not feature in the playing XI for the major part of the tournament. When he got his opportunity in the final stages he showed the world as to why he is a highly rated spinner.

Sandeep was clearly overwhelmed by the support that he got in the Indian Premier League. He took to Twitter to thank the Delhi Daredevils for believing in him. He tweeted: “I would like to express my sincere thanks to @DelhiDaredevils for believing on me and giving me an opportunity to play @IPL ! It was a great experience to learn new things and exposure i got. Thank you everyone who stood with me in this wonderful journey and making this possible.”

The young spinner played a key role in ending Mumbai Indians’ hopes of qualifying for the playoffs as he picked up three crucial wickets and conceded just 36 runs. Batsmen have found it difficult to get away against Sandeep and he has bowled tight lines to keep the batsmen quiet.

Another impressive thing about Lamichhane was the fact that he did not shy away from bowling in the powerplay. He bowled impressively in the first six overs and his variations were difficult to pick.

The leggie from Nepal will be hoping that he gets further opportunities in the next season. He has made use of the few opportunities that he has got and must come back even stronger to cement his place in the lineup.
