The recent times for Suresh Raina, the discarded Indian batsman, haven’t been all that great. The southpaw last represented the national team in England more than one year ago. To make things worse, his chances of donning the Indian jersey once again look pretty bleak. The 32-year-old last played competitive cricket for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Recently he underwent surgery on his left knee for the second time on Saturday, August 10 in Amsterdam, Netherlands and is well on his way to recovering. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) updated about Raina’s surgery. The official Twitter handle of the Indian board uploaded a picture where the left-hander was seen lying on the bed with his leg strapped up.

It was also learned that Raina would need around four to six weeks of rehabilitation for recovery. He had been facing discomfort on his knee for quite a significant amount of time. India’s domestic season is set to get underway this month with the Duleep Trophy. Raina wasn’t named among the 44 members selected for three different squads- India Blue, Indian Red, India Green.

Back in 2007, Raina underwent his maiden knee surgery and the issue has been a monkey on his back ever since. After the surgery, Raina posted a statement on social media where he thanked his close ones for supporting him throughout the tough times. He also sounder eager to get back on the cricket field. In the meantime, Sania Mirza wished Raina a speedy recovery post the surgery.

Mirza understands the pain of surgery as he has undergone quite a few in her tennis career. The frequent knee injuries have frustrated her for quite some time. Sania, who’s a winner of six Grand Slam titles, is currently a mother of a baby boy after getting married to Pakistan cricketer Shoaib Malik back in 2010. She is also looking to take part in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Mirza said that going through surgeries is never an easy task by any means. Motivating Raina, the 32-year-old took to Twitter and wrote, “Surgery is never easy .. hang in there and come back stronger,”
