In the early 2000s, Indian cricket strained with finding the most appropriate wicketkeeper-batsman for all the formats. After trying out a number of them, the management zeroed in on Jharkhand-born MS Dhoni, who made his debut in 2004 against Bangladesh. Ever since, he has garnered a number of laurels in his kitty and has only grown in stature, both as an individual and a cricketer.

Dhoni is also the only wicketkeeper with 100 stumpings in One Day Internationals. However, the recent times haven’t given him much to cheer by any means. He has floundered with the willow and hasn’t been at his very best with the gloves behind the wickets. During India’s limited-overs series against England, he was a recipient of severe criticism from the supporters.

The 37-year-old is currently plying his trade in the 2018 Asia Cup in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Another wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik is also in the Indian squad, however, is playing as a fielder with Dhoni donning the keeping gloves.

Styris disagrees with the supporter

In the meantime, a supporter on Twitter called for Dhoni to give up the keeping gloves and groom keepers from the next generations. The user also mentioned that India are in requisite of a keeper alike Jos Buttler from England.

The user wrote, “Who is the WK after MSD retires? None. Even if DK plays along with MSD, he cannot keep. Apart from the 1st ODI against SL in India, MSD never played a noteworthy knock. Dhoni can switch duties as keeper and nurture next gen keepers. We want a Jos Buttler kind of keeper now,”

Nevertheless, Scott Styris, the former all-round cricketer from New Zealand, reckons that Dhoni is the greatest keeper-batsman to have played the game and he gave the user an appropriate reply. Styris replied and wrote, “You want the greatest ODI wicketkeeper/batsman to ever play the game dropped? You are cray cray,”
