West Indies legend Shivnarine Chanderpaul is currently in India for the ongoing Road Safety World Series. The left-handed batsman rolled back the years by scoring a fluent fifty in the tournament-opener on Saturday against India Legends. He scored 61 but unfortunately, it went in vain as India Legends registered an emphatic seven-wicket win.

Chanderpaul will be looking to continue to bat in the same manner in the remainder of the competition. And while he is in India, he was recently asked about the best batsman in the world right now. While the jury is still out on the same, Chanderpaul believes that India skipper Virat Kohli is the best player in the world.

The former cricketer was all praise for Kohli’s hard work and dedication. Chanderpaul said that Kohli works really hard on his game and it pays off on the field. The southpaw said that Kohli deserves credit for staying on top of his game for so long. Kohli is currently the top-ranked ODI batsman in the world and recently lost his top spot in Tests.

“Obviously, it’s Virat Kohli. He has been working on all the aspects of his game and the results are showing. He is working hard on his fitness, he works on his skills. You see him putting in the hard work and he is one of those guys, who always wants to do well. He’s proven it, day in and day out. You have to give credit to him for that. It’s not easy to stay at the top of your game for so long. You got to put in your work and the results are showing,” he told Sportstar.

While Virat Kohli is hailed by many as the best in the world right now, he had a disastrous tour of New Zealand earlier last month. The India skipper struggled to get going in the swinging conditions of New Zealand. He scored just 218 runs in the 11 innings (four T20Is, three ODIs and four Tests).

His performance in the two-match Test series was completely unexpected. In four innings, he managed to score just 38 runs as India crossed the 200-run mark just once in the series. New Zealand had gone on to inflict a whitewash on India.
