Shreyas Iyer, the young Indian cricketer played a swashbuckling knock against Punjab in a crucial game. He was at his helm best and played all the strokes from his dictionary. He smacked 80 runs off 40 balls with seven boundaries and four big sixes. While playing a swift knock, he also reminisced a memory of MS Dhoni’s trademark “Helicopter shot”. On Friday, Mumbai was scheduled to play a crucial encounter in their quest to qualify for the semi-finals of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

At the start, Punjab won the toss and elected to field first. It was confirmed that Suryakumar Yadav and Co. had to win the game by a margin of 90 runs or more if they want to qualify into the semi-finals. Earlier, it was looking an impossible task but after a phenomenal knock from Yadav and Iyer, the hopes were still alive in the Mumbai dressing room. In the end, Mumbai batsmen posted a mammoth total of 243 runs.

Later on, Punjab gave an epic fightback but ended up losing the game by 22 runs. However, after winning the game as well, Yadav and Co. were ruled out from the going into the further stage of the competition.

Shreyas Iyer unleashes beast mode against Punjab in a crucial game

The incident happened when Baltej Singh was given the ball to bowl in the penultimate over of the innings and Shreyas Iyer was the batsman on strike, who was playing in sublime form. Iyer was going for a big hit on each and every delivery. As soon as the Punjab medium-pacer bowled the first delivery of his over at a pace of 114 km/hr, Iyer read the slow delivery perfectly and also a bit early and moved to his back foot to take the aerial route.

The fans in the stadium were delighted to see that shot by Iyer, which resembled MS Dhoni’s helicopter shot. It is considered as the trademark shot of MS Dhoni, who is currently on a sabbatical after returning from 2019 World Cup.

In a vital game for Mumbai, Suryakumar Yadav (80 runs off 30 balls) and Prithvi Shaw (53 runs off 27 balls) also gave valuable contribution with the bat. Meanwhile, MSK Prasad has hailed the way Iyer is performing and felt that he could be a solution at number four position both in ODIs and T20s for Team India. He is happy with how the Mumbai batsman has evolved his game in the last eighteen months.

“If you recall, we had inducted Shreyas Iyer (when Virat Kohli was rested) 18 months back into the ODI squad and he has done reasonably well. Unfortunately, we couldn’t continue with him. Having said that, he has evolved as a player now and he can be the solution to our number 4 slot in both ODIs and T20s,” MSK Prasad said as quoted by Sportstar.
