Former Indian opener Aakash Chopra feels that Indian all-rounder Deepti Sharma should have been sold for at least INR 3 crore at the inaugural Women’s Premier League Auction 2023 on Monday. The 45-year-old stated that considering the huge amounts that some other players got Deepti Sharma should’ve been sold for at least INR 3 crore.

Sharma was bought by the UP Warriorz for INR 2.6 crore at the auction in Mumbai on Monday. She became the second most expensive Indian player after Smriti Mandhana who was bought by Royal Challengers Bangalore for a whopping INR 3.4 crore.

Talking on his YouTube Channel, Chopra felt that Deepti could have gone for a few more bucks as she will be the most valuable Indian player in the tournament.

"Deepti Sharma, I felt she could be in the range of three crores - if Smriti (Mandhana), Ashleigh Gardner and Natalie Sciver are getting three, then our Deepti will also get three because she will be the most valuable player from the Indian perspective in the upcoming edition,” said Chopra.

The former Indian opener credited UP Warriorz for building a good squad at the auction being a first time franchise. He further gave an 8.5 out of 10 rating to UP calling them a smart franchise.

"I feel she will become the Warriorz's captain. They also have Alyssa Healy, Sophie Ecclestone and Grace Harris - which means they have assembled a good team. They came to an auction for the first time but made all the right moves. They picked Devika Vaidya in the end for a lot of money,” he added.

Talking about Delhi Capitals, Chopra said that the franchise followed an interesting approach during the auction as they started later than everyone but finished first.

"If we go towards Delhi - they have Jemimah Rodrigues and Shafali Verma. They have Meg Lanning and Marizanne Kapp as well. It was very interesting. They started later than everyone, it seemed they had not come at all, but finished first,” Chopra stated.

This team will go far, this team has the might: Aakash Chopra

The former Delhi batter concluded by saying that Delhi have got all the bases covered and will go far in the tournament.

"Very good team. If you see this team's balance - they have experienced Indian bowlers, two young Indian batters and two fantastic overseas players in the form of Meg Lanning and Kapp - Delhi Capitals, get prepared for a party. This team will go far, this team has the might,” Chopra concluded.

The Delhi Capitals has one of the most balanced sides in the WPL having depth in both batting and bowling and will be one of the favourites to lift the trophy in the inaugural edition.
