India Women beat England by 16 runs in the third and final One Day International at the Lord's Cricket Ground on Saturday, September 24 to register a historic 3-0 whitewash. While the match will be remembered for being Jhulan Goswami's final international fixture and also for her taking a wicket in the final over of her spell, another thing for which this contest will be remembered for is the way it ended.

Spin bowling all-rounder Deepti Sharma ran out the last batter Charlotte Dean in what is infamously known as the 'Mankading'. The batter was declared out eventually as according to the International Cricket Council (ICC) this run out rule is now legal giving the right to the bowler to dislodge the bails at the non-striker's end should the batter leave the crease while the bowler is delivering the bowl.

Deepti Sharma ends a historic series with a smart move

This happened in the 44th over of the second innings. Chasing 170, England's innings was completely derailed thanks to collective efforts from the Indian bowlers including the pace duo of Jhulan Goswami and Renuka Singh Thakur.

With the hosts being reduced to 118/9 in the 36th over, the last pair of Charlotte Dean and Freya Davies counter-attacked. It was Dean (47) who did the bulk of the scoring and brought England within touching distance. The duo had added 35 runs for the final wicket.

On the fourth delivery of the 44th over, while Deepti Sharma was about to bowl, Charlotte walked down the wicket and supposedly suffered a brain fade moment as she just kept on walking ahead. Deepti who saw what was happening smartly stopped in between and dislodged the bails without any second thoughts and by the time the batter turned behind to see what was happening it was all over for England.

For a formality, the matter was referred to the third umpire who declared the batter out. A heartbroken Charlotte Dean was in tears, but in spite of that she went forward and shook hands with Deepti Sharma and the Indian players. By the virtue of this victory, the Indian eves have succeeded in registering their first-ever whitewash on English soil.
