The fans at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune witnessed a masterful innings on Thursday, October 19, from Virat Kohli as the talismanic batter reached the three-figure mark for the 48th time in ODI cricket in India's World Cup clash against Bangladesh. He is now just one shy of Sachin Tendulkar's unprecedented tally of 49 centuries in the international 50-over format.

When Kohli came to bat, India needed just 169 runs and the former India captain still managed to get his century. Mohammad Kaif, who represented India on 138 international occasions, heaped praise on Kohli, lauding the stylish right-handed batter for his understanding of the art of run-making in ODI cricket.

"When Virat Kohli wants a 100, he gets it. So what if India needed just 169 to win when he came out to bat. Few understand the art of run-making in ODIs like him. @imVkohli," Kaif wrote on his official 'X' handle.

We are loving each others' company: Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli was awarded Player of the Match for his unbeaten knock of 103 off 97 balls as India defeated Bangladesh by seven wickets. During the post-match presentation ceremony, the 34-year-old hailed the great atmosphere in the dressing room and explained how it is positively impacting the team's performance on the ground.

"There's a great atmosphere in the change room, we are loving each others' company, and the spirit is there for everyone to see on the field. That's why it's translating like that on the field. We understand it's a long tournament, you need to create some momentum in the changing room for the guys to come out and play like this. It's a special feeling playing at home, playing in front of all these people, we just want to make the most of it," Kohli said.

India have now won four matches on the trot and are placed second on the ODI World Cup 2023 points table. New Zealand have a better net run rate (NRR) than India and that is why they are at the top of the table. These two teams will square off on Sunday, October 22 in Dharamsala in what promises to be a riveting clash.
