'Golden Boy' - Ravindra Jadeja remembers 2013 Champions Trophy Triumph with a special photograph

Star India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja shared a throwback picture on Friday, remembering India’s 2013 Champions Trophy triumph. India won the 2013 Champions Trophy ten years back on June 23, by beating England by five runs in the final in Birmingham. Jadeja was awarded Player of the Match in the final for his all-round show as he first scored 33* off 25 balls in the first innings to help India post a fighting total of 129/7, in a rain-curtailed 20-over game.
The left-arm spinner further picked up 2/24 in his four-over spell and dismissed Ian Bell (13 off 16) and Jos Buttler (0). Jadeja was also awarded the ‘Golden Ball’ for finishing as the highest wicket-taker of the tournament with 12 wickets to his name at an average of 12.83 and an economy of 3.75.
The all-rounder shared a photograph of him holding the Player of the Match award and the Golden Ball on Twitter and captioned the post, “GOLDEN BOY #missioncompleted.”

Apart from Jadeja, opener Shikhar Dhawan also shone with the bat for India during the tournament as he finished as the highest run scorer of the tournament with 363 runs in five innings at an average of 90.75 and a strike rate of 101.39 with two centuries and one fifty to his name. Dhawan was awarded the ‘Golden Bat’ for his magnificent achievement.
Coming back to the final, batting first, India posted 129/7 with significant contributions from Virat Kohli (43 off 34), Dhawan (31 off 24), and Jadeja (33* off 25). In reply, after being 46/4 in 8.4 overs, England’s innings was rescued by Ravi Bopara (30 off 25) and Eoin Morgan (33 off 30). The duo added 64 runs off 53 balls for the fifth wicket and brought their side to the cusp of victory with just 20 runs needed off the last 16 balls.

However, Ishant Sharma brought India back into the game by dismissing Bopara and Morgan on back-to-back deliveries. Further Jadeja dismissed Buttler in the 19th over and England required 15 to win off the last over with Stuart Broad and James Tredwell at the crease. Ravichandran Ashwin defended the runs as India won the match by five runs and won their second Champions Trophy after they were announced co-champions in 2002. MS Dhoni became the first captain to win all three major ICC trophies played at that time.
