India and Pakistan played out an unbelievable thriller in the ongoing T20 World Cup at the iconic MCG. Chasing 160 runs, India seemed down and out with four wickets down with not many runs on the board. However, it was the partnership between Virat Kohli and Hardik Pandya that brought the team back in the game. Perhaps, it was only the former India skipper who was timing the ball well.

At one stage, at a collosal venue, it seemed as if India will run out of gas. But it was Kohli who was in the game all the time and managed to take the team closer. The pendulum swung towards both sides with every ball and when the equation came down to 28 runs off eight balls, it was all Pakistan clearly.

However, Virat Kohli was batting like a dream on the evening and he managed to smack two majestic hits and bring it down to 16 runs off the final over. Pendulum swung even more in the final over and Kohli here to smacked a much-needed six. With one needed off the final ball, Ashwin smashed a brilliant four that let all the emotion out of the 33-year-old.

The entire team ran towards him as the celebrations unfurled like anything with Virat Kohli making sure he celebrated like never before. He went through a lot in the last couple of years and while looking at the sky after the match, there was a drop of tear in his eyes. He broke down as his teammates hugged him as he took India home in style.

It was meant to be, says Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli opened up in the post-match presentation and expressed his feelings stating that it was meant to happen at the MCG.

"It's a surreal atmosphere, I have no words, no idea how that happened. I am really lost for words. Hardik believed we can do it, if we stayed till the end. When Shaheen bowled from the pavilion end, that's when we decided to take him down. Haris is their prime bowler, and I hit those two sixes. The calculation was simple. Nawaz had one over to bowl, so if I could take Haris down, they would panic.

"From 28 in 8, it came down to 16 to 6. I tried to stick to my instincts. The first one was back of a hand slower ball (the one over long-on). Standing here I just feel like it was meant to be. Till today Mohali was my best innings against Australia. Today I will count this one higher. Hardik kept pushing me. The crowd has been phenomenal. You guys (fans) kept backing me and I am grateful for your support," he said.
