Team India registered a comprehensive win by 91 runs in the third and final T20I match against Sri Lanka to clinch the series 2-1 at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot. The hosts had a remarkable night as the side kept intact a proud winning streak against the Islanders.

Opting to bat first, the Hardik Pandya-led side lost two early wickets while there was a fine cameo from Rahul Tripathi. It was at this point that Suryakumar Yadav stepped in and played one of his finest knocks for the side in the shortest format. The swashbuckling right-hander dispatched the ball on to the stands nearly all around the park. 

Adding to this, it was one of those rare moments where even the fielders of the rival side had no response and turned spectators. Suryakumar concluded the Indian batting innings with a score of 112* runs from only 51 deliveries which propelled the side to post a humongous total of 228 for the loss of five wickets.

Sri Lanka lose the plot in massive run chase

In response to the massive total, the 2022 Asia Cup winners got precisely the start they would have hoped for as Kusal Mendis and Pathum Nissanka made use of the powerplay. However, Axar Patel’s early success coupled with decent bowling spells from the rest of the bowling unit helped tilt the momentum back in India’s favour. 

The onus was on skipper Dasun Shanaka to go all gun blazing once again as he did in the previous T20Is. The middle-order batter kept the scoreboard ticking with occasional boundaries but the Indian bowler kept mounting the pressure on the visitors.

Eventually, Shanaka departed as he was dismissed by Arshdeep Singh for 23 of 17 balls. With wickets falling swiftly at regular intervals, the Lankan side succumbed under pressure thereby handing a win to the hosts in the series decider.
