Thanks to a majestic 112-run knock by swashbuckling right hander Suryakumar Yadav, team India registered a massive total of 228/5 in their stipulated 20 overs. The Men in Blue are on the lookout to seal a win to clinch the series in the third and final T20I contest against Sri Lanka at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot.
Bowling first, the visitors drew first blood as they picked the two early wickets of opener Ishan Kishan and Rahul Tripathi. However, coming in the middle-order, Tripathi played a brief cameo with the bat as he amassed 35 off 16 balls before getting dismissed by Chamika Karunaratne.
In came the number one batter of the T20Is- Suryakumar Yadav who registered his first century of the year against the Islanders. The right hander swiftly hit the ground running and lived up to the tag of being regarded as the new ‘360-degree player’. It was as if at one point, the Lankan fielders turned spectators as Suryakumar belted the bowlers almost all over the ground.
Adding to this, the batter got runs from nearly all parts of the park, dispatching the ball on numerous occasions with his sensational flicks and scoops. One of the most impressive shots among the many was when left-arm pacer Dilshan Madhushanka hit a full toss towards the off-side and what followed was the flamboyant right hander flicking the ball all the way for a maximum despite falling his ground.
Meanwhile, opener Shubman Gill too kept the scoreboard ticking before getting dismissed as he concluded his innings with a score of 46 runs from 36 deliveries. Suryakumar concluded the Indian batting innings with a magnificent 51-ball 112 which included nine maximums and seven boundaries which propelled the side to post a total of 228 runs.
Team India look to clinch series in final T20I
The Hardik Pandya-led side have fared well with the bat and the onus will be on the bowling unit to defend the mammoth total. The last two fixtures saw the two teams taking the contest till the very end and the hosts will aim to deck the Islanders batting line-up so as to not take the game deep.
It remains to be seen if the visitors will be able to tough fight as they did in the first and second T20Is. Lankan skipper Dasun Shanaka will look to play a vital knock in the crunch match and get his side ahead if they are to emerge victorious in India breaking the losing streak.
