The 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 is scheduled to begin on March 31 and will see many of the world’s best cricketers taking on each other in the world’s biggest T20 league.

The finalists of the 2022 edition of the tournament, Rajasthan Royals, will also look for a repeat of their performances from the previous edition as they head into the forthcoming tournament. Sanju Samson-led RR dominated almost every opponent they faced in 2022 before barely missing out on the IPL title to Hardik Pandya’s Gujarat Titans.

Rajasthan would be desperate to go for the title once again as was evident from their aggressive purchase at the IPL 2023 auctions where they roped in many big names like Jason Holder, Adam Zampa and Joe Root.

Ahead of the start of the tournament, Joe Root recently joined the RR camp following which, the star English batter took part in his first training session with the team. The franchise took to Twitter to share some glimpses of Root’s training.

In a video shared by the team, Root was seen playing his signature cover drive and knocking over a camera in his first-ever training session with the team. RR captioned the tweet, saying, “26.03.23 - Joe Root’s first ball as a Royal!”

Rajasthan Royals take on Sunrisers Hyderabad to kick off their IPL campaign

To kick off their IPL 2023 campaign, Rajasthan Royals will go up against Aiden Markram-led Sunrisers Hyderabad, which will be the fourth match of the competition.

The match is scheduled to be played on Sunday, April 2 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium where the finalists from the last year would look to grab their first win of the tournament. Skipper Sanju Samson has got a number of destructive weapons in his arsenal in the form of explosive big guns such as Jos Buttler, Trent Boult and Jason Holder, whom he would rely upon to give desired results to the franchise.

For the first-ever time, Royals have chosen Guwahati's ACA stadium as their second home ground where they would kickstart the proceedings on April 5 against Punjab Kings, thus marking IPL's historic entry in North East India.
