The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) were in a must-win situation to keep their playoffs hopes alive in IPL 2025. They locked horns with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Ekana Stadium on May 19. Having raced off to 108 without loss in the first 10 overs, LSG seemed in a good position to reach a massive total.

Mitchell Marsh smacked 65 off 39 balls while Aiden Markram brought up his half-century off just 28 balls to put the hosts in the driving position. Debutant Harsh Dubey eventually broke the opening stand by dismissing Marsh, handing SRH their first breakthrough and a chance to bounce back.

Meanwhile, LSG skipper Rishabh Pant promoted himself ahead of Nicholas Pooran, coming in at No. 3. After flicking a boundary early in his innings for four, Pant’s stay was cut short as he continued his abysmal form this season. Facing Eshan Malinga in the 12th over, Pant looked to push down a slower delivery the ground, however, he ended up hitting it back towards the bowler. Malinga, in his follow-through, jumped to his left and plucked a spectacular return catch mid-air.

The southpaw, who had scored just 7 off 6 balls, had to walk back after a forgettable outing yet again. This dismissal added to Pant’s lean run of form this season as he recorded his seventh single-digit score.

Meanwhile, Lucknow Super Giants are in a must-win territory and even three wins in their remaining games may not prove enough if other results don't fall in their favour. After Gujarat Titans' 10-wicket win over Delhi Capitals on May 18, as many as three spots for the playoffs have been sealed, with Titans, RCB and PBKS going through. Delhi Capitals, Mumbai Indians and LSG are the three teams vying for the fourth playoffs berth.
