Gujarat Titans (GT) won a high-scoring encounter against Delhi Capitals (DC) in the last over in match No. 35 of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Saturday, April 19.

Shubman Gill won the toss in the afternoon fixture and opted to field first. Abishek Porel got his team off to a flying start before being dismissed for a nine-ball 18. Karun Nair and KL Rahul also played aggressive knocks at the top of the order. Axar Patel played the anchor's role after coming to bat at No. 4.

Meanwhile, Tristan Stubbs and Ashutosh Sharma played swashbuckling cameos at the backend of the innings, scoring 31 (21) and 37 (19), respectively. However, Ishant Sharma and R Sai Kishore bowled brilliantly in the last couple of overs, which yielded just 15 runs. The Capitals finished on 203/8 on a flat track. Prasidh Krishna was the pick of the bowlers for GT as he bagged a four-for.

In reply, the Titans lost their captain, Gill, in the second over as he was run out after being involved in a mix-up with Sai Sudharsan. However, this early debacle didn't set the cat among the pigeons as far as the hosts were concerned. Sudharsan and Jos Buttler joined forces and steadied the innings with a 60-run partnership off 35 balls.

After Sudharsan was dismissed for a 21-ball 36, it was time for Buttler to show his class. The England wicketkeeper-batter played a glorious knock under extreme heat, forging a decisive 119-run partnership off 69 balls with Sherfane Rutherford.

The Titans were cruising towards the target before Mukesh Kumar bowled a remarkable 19th over, conceding just five runs and picking up Rutherford's wicket. The West Indies batter made 43 off 34 balls and gave Buttler good company. In the last over, Mitchell Starc had 10 runs to defend. He had helped the Capitals take the last game against Rajasthan Royals to the Super Over when only nine runs were required to win. However, the Australian seamer couldn't repeat his heroics this time.

Rahul Tewatia hit the first ball of the last over for a six as Starc missed his yorker by a whisker. The latter didn't miss his mark in the following delivery as he nailed the yorker, but Tewatia managed to get an inside edge that rolled past the leg-stump before racing to the fine leg boundary. Buttler remained unbeaten on 97 off 54 balls. Gujarat finished on 204/3 in 19.2 overs to climb to the top of the table.
